How to recover data from a RAID created using Oyen Mobius RAID controller

Oyen Mobius RAID controller is a modern solution for combining disks into a single storage. Externally, the Oyen Mobius RAID controller looks very similar to a NAS device, but in fact it is not a NAS. Access to data is carried out not over the network, but directly. Oyen Mobius RAID controller supports the following RAID levels:

  • RAID0 (striping);
  • RAID1 (mirroring);
  • RAID5;
  • JBOD;
  • RAID10.

Unlike regular RAID controllers, the Oyen Mobius RAID controller has disk status indicators. With their help, you can easily figure out which disk has failed. It should also be noted that the Oyen Mobius RAID controller can be connected to a computer running Windows or Mac or Linux.

If you are faced with the fact that you cannot access the data stored on the RAID array, then you can try to recover them using the special data recovery software ReclaiMe. However, first, you need to understand what the cause of the breakdown is, because this affects which recovery method you need to use.

If some kind of failure occurred on the file system side, for example, the RAID volume became Unallocated, or you simply deleted some data by mistake, then just run a scan on the RAID volume.

If failures occur on the RAID side, then the process is somewhat more complicated, because you will have to disconnect the disks from the Oyen Mobius RAID controller, connect them to the computer separately, recover the array parameters, and only then restore the files.

Let's look at each method in more detail.

Data recovery from Oyen Mobius RAID controller using ReclaiMe

  1. Download , install and run ReclaiMe on the computer to which the Oyen Mobius RAID controller is connected.
  2. On ReclaiMe window where all devices to be scanned are displayed, find the RAID volume and start scanning. If you do not see the volume, then you need to use another recovery method described below.
  3. Wait until you receive a message that “the initial scan is completed” and check the data using the Preview function. If the amount of data recovered is as expected and the data are shown correctly in Preview , you may not continue scanning but start to save the data. If something does not suit you, then click the Resume button to continue.
  4. Check the quality of the recovery in ReclaiMe
  5. Buy an Ultimate license key and copy the recovered data to another storage device.

Data recovery from Oyen Mobius RAID controller using ReclaiMe Free RAID Recovery

If ReclaiMe File Recovery does not see the RAID volume, then most likely the RAID configuration is destroyed. To recover data you need:

  1. Remove all drives from the Oyen Mobius RAID controller, label them according to the bays and connect them to the computer. It is recommended to connect drives directly to the motherboard using SATA. However, if there are not enough free SATA ports on the motherboard, you can use USB-to-SATA adapters with power.
  2. Download, install and run ReclaiMe Free RAID Recovery
  3. Select all disks from the RAID and click Start RAID0 or RAID5 or Others depending on what type of array was used.
  4. ReclaiMe Free RAID - disk selection
  5. When the software completes its analysis, you will be presented with several options. Select Run ReclaiMe to recover files.
  6. Next, ReclaiMe will open in RAID recovery mode. Start scanning the RAID volume by clicking Start.
  7. Wait until you receive a message that “Initial scanning is completed” and start checking the files in Preview.
  8. Buy an Ultimate license key and copy the recovered data to another storage device.
