How to tell IDE from SATA drive

Technically, there are Parallel ATA (PATA) and Serial ATA (SATA), which are both variants of the IDE hard drive interface. However, the term IDE is typically used for a Parallel ATA drives. You can tell IDE from SATA by looking at the hard drive connectors as illustrated below.
